About Randy

randy2Randy is the Founder of the Sorrento Valley Law Group. He is also a Senior Advisor for Mesa Verde Ventures, a life sciences venture fund, and an Adjunct Professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

He lives in the Del Mar Highlands area, is married and is the father of two daughters, one who recently graduated from college and the other who is a junior in college.

He was a three-sport athlete in high school and is a Rhodes Scholar with degrees from Cornell (BA), Oxford (M.Litt.), Yale (JD) and the University of San Diego (MBA).

Professional Background:

randy116 years of that as a general counsel to four public and private life science companies in San Diego. Have Been named the San Diego Business Journal’s In-House Counsel of the Year 2008, 2009 and 2016 with also being named the In-House Counsel of the Year for Small Public Companies 2016; Also won the San Diego Association of Corporate Counsel’s In-House Counsel of the Year 2012.

25 year corporate and securities lawyer (New York, Pittsburgh and San Diego).

Taught for 16 years as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law (where in 2009 I was voted Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year), 4 years as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law; taught for two years as a Lecturer at the University of California, San Diego Rady School of Business and taught for 4 years at the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences at the Claremont Colleges.  I have also taught at a law school in China for three summers.  I teach Biotechnology Law, Intellectual Property Law, Licensing and Litigation, Technology Law and Business Law.
